Num país em que os noticiários da noite duram cerca de 1 hora (na TVI, claro, é 1h30) e noticiam tudo o que interessa e o que não interessa, não espanta que um ex-primeiro ministro (sim foram 4 meses) seja interrompido pela chegada ao aeroporto de um treinador de futebol (ainda que seja quem seja).

Santana Lopes teve uma atitude de coragem e deixou a meio a entrevista que lhe estava a ser feita. Só assim é possível dar um exemplo.

FrozenFlower.net

If you love photography you’ll love FrozenFlower

FrozenFlower aggregates photos from other photoblogs. It’s useful because it lets people see all the photos in one single place. At the same time it also helps people discover other photographers that one would probably never know about.

FrozenFlower is Nuno’s most recent project. The project was very well received by the photography community with some good photobloggers asking to join the project. There was even a mention in Portuguese media.

I particularly like the fact that new members have to be approved by the community. In a quality-based community like FrozenFlowe, this makes all the difference.

Time Out Lisboa (agora em Português)

A Time Out Lisboa foi lançada hoje e pelas vezes que a revista já me foi útil (na versão de Londres) resolvi dedicar-lhe o meu primeiro post em Português.

A Time Out é a uma revista sobre tudo o que há para fazer fora de casa. Sendo um guia cultural, inclui obviamente uma lista de eventos, opiniões sobre restaurantes, uma lista de exposições, comentários a filmes e muito, muito mais.

Existem algumas alternativas no mercado para este tipo de publicações. O Cartaz do semanário Expresso, a Ípsilon do Público (que sai à sexta-feira) e ainda a Agenda Cultural de Lisboa (distribuida gratuitamente).

TimeOut Lisboa

A Time Out Lisboa traz algumas boas novidades. Provavelmente baseada na experiência da versão inglesa, esta revista é bastante extensa e cobre uma quantidade incrível de áreas sempre com bastante pormenor. A cobertura de eventos, por exemplo, fala não só de espectáculos mas também de acontecimentos mais raros (como a aconselhável visita às galerias Romanas da Rua da Prata).

Três notas positivas:

  • 1) A franqueza com que comentam as visitas a restaurantes. A Time Out acha que o Nood deixa muito a desejar. “Está na moda por ser no Chiado e modernito. Mas tem pouco mais.” dizem eles. Eu concordo.
  • 2) A abertura de espírito para abordar temas como a homossexualidade são bem vindos. Incluir reviews de lugar frequentados por gays (infelizmente ainda) não é para toda a gente. Parabéns pela coragem.
  • 3) A agressividade da campanha é interessante. Ainda que o resto da revista trate as pessoas por voçê, a campanha é mais aberta e diz directamente: “O que fazes dentro de casa é contigo, o que fazer fora é com a Time Out.”. Finalmente uma revista mais descontraída?

Espero pelo site em www.timeout.pt e pela utilização de RSS que tanto jeito dariam.

Multilingual blog

This blog is now multilingual. From now on English will be sprinkled with the occasional Portuguese post and maybe even a drop of French if I feel like it.

Writing in other languages is something that has been challenging my thoughts for some time mostly because I haven’t found a solution for blogging in multiple languages.

Stephanie has some good ideas on the subject. She discusses several ways multilingual blogging can be done. I decided to use the single-blog-more-than-one-language approach because I want my digital identity to be blog.delaranja.com and not split between multiple addresses.

Let’s see how it goes.

Email Overload

In the last couple of months I was already feeling that my email was gradually taking over my time.

A week ago I noticed that my brain was not able to answer all email messages at the same speed it was processing them before going on vacation.

This made me realize a couple of things:

  • Had I not taken vacation I would certainly reach an email overdose.
  • Not all email is created equal. And so not every message is urgent or even needs an answer.
  • I’ve been checking email only when I finish a major task for the day. I hope to continue do it when Adegga launches.
  • Email notifiers are hell on earth. Removed all of them.
  • Having 2 email accounts is actually a good thing. Adegga stuff is treated separately from personal stuff.

These have been working fine for me. Anyone has any other ideas on treating email overload?

Summer 2007

Summer vacation has ended a few days ago. This year we decided to take our car and drive to France. We ended up doing 8000 Km of road and few more countries.

In Spain we were in Bilbao, Irun and San Sebastian, in France we stayed in Angers, Chiché and Tours and also visited the Venise Vert, La Rochelle, Ile de Ré and Nantes. In Belgium we had lunch in Antwerp and in the Netherlands we stayed in Utrecht and visited Amsterdam. An unforgettable summer vacation.

Now back to work.
