Adegga Wine Market

I’m happy to announce that on December 8th Adegga will be organizing its first wine event! The Adegga Wine Market is a Taste & Buy Wine Event where wine producers and wine lovers can get together to enjoy wine in a relaxed lounge like atmosphere.

It’s a no stands or ties wine event and the venue will have plenty of sofas & lounge music in order to create the best relaxed wine tasting moment.

Any of the wines at the tasting will also be available to buy during the event so that you can pick your favorites and buy them for Christmas.

Date, Venue & Ticket
- The event takes place on Tuesday, 8th December 2009 from 2pm to 9pm.
- The events costs 5€ and includes a Riedel wine glass and a shop discount.

The venue is the Teatro Aberto located in the Praça de Espanha in Lisbon (see map). There’s plenty of parking space around and very easy access by subway or bus.

A weekend away in the Alentejo

It’s been long time since I booked a weekend away from home. I’ve been travelling frequently but always to attend a conference or a business meeting. This time it was for pure pleasure.

It all started with a fantastic Friday night summer concert looking at the beautiful Cortes de Cima vineyard and followed by a nice dinner in Beja with good friends and good wine.

The silence of the Cortes de Cima Vineyard

We stayed in the Pousada Beja Hotel, a former 13th century Franciscan Convent located in the heart of the historical centre of Beja and full of historic character and convent-like peace.

Saturday we drove to Alcácer do Sal passing through many small villages located somewhere in the middle of the Alentejo wine region. Beautiful vineyards, gorgeous small white-painted houses and a temperature of 38ºC completely correspond to what you can expect of this wonderful region in the south of Portugal.

All pictures from the weekend on Flickr.

In Alcácer do Sal we stayed in a small boutique hotel called Albergaria Ordem de Santiago just in front of the Sado river and looking over the many rice fields. Lots of small restaurants where you can eat plenty of local dishes. A perfect place for a 2 day getaway and only 60km from Lisbon.

From Alcácer do Sal there are several ways to reach Lisbon. After Praia da Comporta and next to Tróia there’s a very efficient Ferry service (my pictures here) that takes you and your car to Setúbal, just south of Lisbon (journey takes around 30 minutes).

I returned from the weekend more relaxed, full of energy and with some of lines of thought better organized than when I started the weekend. I should definitely do this more often.

Gary Vaynerchuck on the Alentejo Wine Region

Gary Vaynerchuk does another exciting show about wines from the Alentejo. Gary is really into Portuguese wines and that can only be good.

Of course you can find all the 3 wines on Adegga too: Pera Manca 2006 (white), Esporão Reserva 2006 (red), Vila Santa 2006 (red).

At the London Wine Fair

As I said previously I’ll be spending this week in London to attend the London Wine Fair.

The event includes drinking (more like tasting…) lots of great wine and also hours of hard work promoting the Adegga, Catavino and the European Wine Bloggers Conference (that will happen in Portugal in October)

Lots of stuff going on this week:

  • I’ll be at ViniPortugal’s stand most of the event. Look for me at stand B20/C20.
  • Together with the Catavino team I’ll be setting up an interesting social media experiment that involves Twitter (of course), a Live video feed and lot of photos. More on this later.
  • Wednesday I’ll make to short presentations at the stand. One about the AVIN (the ISBN for Wine) and one about Social Tasting Notes sites like Adegga.
  • Also on Wednesday I’ll be at the Catavino-co-hosted London Wine and Food Blogger’s Meetup!

If you’re in London please pass by ViniPortugal’s stand (B20/C20) and lets have a glass of wine!

VinumCallipole09: Wine tasting in Alentejo

Next Saturday there’s another great opportunity to taste great Portuguese wines in the beautiful wine region of Alentejo

Organized by João Pedro, the event will happen in the Convento dos Capuchos in Vila Viçosa and starts at 15h and lasts until 20h.

It’s one of the cosiest wine events in Portugal and a really good opportunity to taste good wine, talk to wine producers and meet fellow wine drinkers.

Dynamic Wine Labels

Imagine you are in a restaurant or in a wine shop and would like to know more information about a wine you’re thinking of buying. If that wine uses the new Dynamic Wine Labels you’ll be able to use your mobile phone to instantly access lots of useful information about that wine (ratings, notes, prices) directly from the adegga wine community.

We’ve done a nice video demonstrating how it all works:

Dynamic Wine Labels from andrerib on Vimeo.

To make this work we’ve connected three things together: the AVIN our ISBN-like unique wine identifier, the mobile version of adegga and the QRCodes technology.

If you’re interested read the whole post at adegga.

Interview about adegga.com @ shift08

Viktoria and her lovely German accent interviewed me at SHiFT while enjoying a nice bottle of Cortes de Cima wine:

André Ribeirinho is all about wine and he wants to share his passion with other people by providing an answer on the always returning question which wine to choose. You want to know how it works and how it integrates your offline-shopping experience, have a look on the demonstration which André provides in the video by bringing QR Codes on wine bottles! For more infos go also to www.adegga.com. André is also co-founder of the shift conference and put in a lot of energy in realizing this event.

Cortes de Cima Vineyard Flyby

Video of a flyby to the Cortes de Cima vineyard made during my visit to Cortes de Cima.

This was the first time I edited a video. I have been using a Mac for 5 years but never tried opening iMovie. In 45 minutes I got a few smaller videos together and produced this video. I then uploaded the video to Vimeo, which is definitely the best site out there for personal movie sharing.

Visit to Cortes de Cima

I had a great day, yesterday, while visiting Cortes de Cima with Emidio. Cortes de Cima is a quality wine producer from the region of Alentejo in Portugal and visiting them was something I’ve been wanting to do for a while.

In the middle of the harvest, it was a very busy day to visit but the whole team welcomed us with a smile and I must say sometimes it felt like family.

Chef Bjarne Otto cooked a wonderful meal which we paired with some Cortes de Cima wine. It was a nice and relaxed lunch time. A moment to enjoy the conversation, the wine and the food.

Thanks to António Cláudio the day included a very instructional one hour tour to the vineyard and thanks to the always friendly Mr. Hans, an aircraft tour and an aerial view of the vineyards. It was the perfect ending to a delightful day.

Here are the photos from the visit:

For the first time I took a camera with me and using a tripod I was able to catch some great footage from the vineyard. I’ll rearrange the videos and publish them online soon.

Quinta da Lagoalva Rosé 2006

There were times when a rosé wine was definitely not an option. But not anymore. Quality wine making and 12ish alcohol level have transformed the world of rosés and make this light wines an attractive choice.

This Quinta da Lagoalva Rosé 2006 is a real treat.

Quinta da Lagoalva Rosé 2006

I’ve had a bottle last night while dinning at Asian fusion restaurant New Wok in Lisbon and I must say I’m amazed with the rosé / asian pairing.

We started with a couple of meat and vegetable Gyozas then followed with a delicious Yakisoba. The matching of food and wine was amazing. A 12º alcohol level and a very good balance between sweetness and acidity make the Quinta da Lagoalva Rosé 2006 a perfect choice for this type of food.

A new favourite.
