Monocle’s 25 Most Livable Cities

Zurich (where I was in February) is top place on the new list of Monocle’s 25 Most Livable Cities. It’s closely followed by Copenhagen (where I’m going in a few days) and Tokyo (that I definitely wish to visit since I saw Nuno’s take on the city).

Zürich did move into the top spot, thanks to outstanding and still improving public transport, including an expanding tram system and main rail station; ample leisure activities, including 50 museums and excellent restaurants; environmental activism in setting new emissions targets; good business culture, with local authorities offering both advice and low-cost office space; and its airport, which serves 170 destinations and is now in line for a SFr460m (£262m) revamp.

Lisbon gets 25th place again! Can’t wait for the Monocle’s new edition to come out so I can read the reason why each city got their place.

Here’s a table showing this year’s positions:

Os tipos não gostam muito de sol, pois não?! Suspeito que um dos critérios para entrar no top ten é ter menos de 200 horas de sol por ano :)

Seems that Lisbon is catching up to Geneva, the city I live at the moment. Maybe I need a city upgrade…

Listening to their article they say that Lisbon was down one spot? And that it needs to do something about the crime statistics? Are they serious. There’s as much crime in Lisbon in a year as in London in a week or less.

I don’t see London…guess we lost miserably in the sun shine category…:o(
