SAPO Vídeos
As many have already noted (mostly in Portuguese), there’s a new online video service in Portuguese. SAPO Vídeos is a YouTube clone made in Portugal by SAPO. This service is an important tool for the Portuguese community that will now be able to share they videos in Portuguese.

Online video is a very popular service nowadays. Broadband is a everywhere and people spend more time that ever online. Like TV, video is a easy-to-entertain service and for the first time users are not only the viewers but can also be producers easily.
Online video also brings the power of choice to the user. Anyone will be able to watch what they want, when they want it.
This is a huge change for traditional media (oops another one). Provided with infinite choice users will choose the services that provide them more choice.
Nevertheless, some networks have already seen the opportunity. YouTube has made deals with TV channels and SAPO Vídeos is also showing some TV videos. Moreover, some TV series are being distributed (legally) online and BBC has just made a deal with a P2P file-sharing company.
A final note on the SAPO service, Users feel that they can easily switch between services. So it’s very important to make them feel at home. At SAPO Vídeos I don’t like the big distracting advertising square that keeps dragging my attention (but paying my salary*). I think that there are better alternatives to this format and they should be considered. One size does not fit all.
Congratulations to the team of SAPO Vídeos for implementing the project and I wish them a very big year.
*I work for SAPO.

A small comment this statement: “the Portuguese community that will now be able to share they videos in Portuguese”. They already could share videos in portuguese in YouTube and other video sites, just think of all the gato fedorento videos out there.
Hi Rob,
by “videos in Portuguese” I meant that the site is written in Portuguese.
