The Smart Growth Manifesto
Make sure you don’t miss Umair Haque’s article The Smart Growth Manifesto on how the new economy rules are changing forever. Here are what Umair calls the four pillars of smart growth - for economies, communities, and corporations: 1. Outcomes, not income. 2. Connections, not transactions. 3. People, not product. 4. Creativity, not productivity.
A summarizing quote from the article:
The four pillars (1) of smart growth aren’t just design principles for next-generation economies: they’re also design principles for next-generation businesses. Already, tomorrow’s radical innovators don’t accept yesterday’s toxic, tired consensus. Revolutionaries like Apple, Threadless, Etsy, Whole Foods, American Apparel, and Google are already reinventing better ways to grow - from the grass-roots up.

Andre, I’d be curious how you see these principles playing out in Portugal (and Europe as a whole); many of the examples are US companies and I think many of the principles are based on US economic, business and cultural structures: how do you see them playing out in Europe?
